Why Queensland Reserves Plumbing for Licence Holders

Queensland requires an occupational licence before anyone touches plumbing or drainage, and a contractor licence before a business accepts the job. The QBCC grants both. The occupational licence shows the tradesperson's competence, and the contractor licence shows the business can run jobs lawfully.

The licences split by trade. A plumber's licence covers the water side, minus jobs that carry a separate endorsement. A drainer's licence handles the drainage that runs under the ground.

Gas work sits on its own ticket again, held only by a licensed gasfitter, which is why we ask you to leave anything on the gas side alone.

What You Can Expect When We Visit

  1. 1

    You tell us the fault

Ring (07) 3524 7137 or send a message, and describe what the water, the drains or the gas is doing. The more detail you give, the better we can prepare.

  2. 2

    We diagnose on site

We trace the fault at your place, whether that's a weeping joint under a 1960s house or a cistern playing up in a brick-veneer home on the hillside.

  3. 3

    You approve a fixed quote

You get a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees. The work only begins once you say yes to the figure.

  4. 4

We do the work and test it

The job gets done, then tested, and card or EFTPOS payment happens on site once it's finished.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive

Two bodies share the checking: the QBCC handles licensing and records notifiable work, while the council grants permits and inspects. You're also entitled to have the council look at notifiable work whenever you like.

The paperwork you receive depends on the job:

  1. Notifiable work

a Form 4 lands with the owner, or whoever booked the plumber, once the job is done. A missing Form 4 can be chased up through the QBCC.

  2. Gas work

when a new installation or alteration is finished, the licensed gasfitter hands you a gas compliance certificate straight away.

If work ever seems unlicensed, defective or non-compliant, raise it with the plumber first, then take it to the QBCC through its online complaints form.

The Suburbs We Work Across

Our run covers the whole valley plus the suburbs next door: Keperra, Ashgrove, Bardon, Brookfield and Enoggera. Upper Kedron, Mount Coot-tha and Enoggera Reservoir each get a dedicated page, and the full list is on the areas page.

Questions People Ask Our Plumbers

Call (07) 3524 7137

How do I check a plumber's licence in Queensland?

Look the plumber up in the QBCC's licence registers. Typing your The Gap address brings up any Form 4 recorded for the property, so you can see what notifiable work has been done. Checking first keeps the job inside a system that protects you.

Does gas work in a The Gap home need a separate licence?

Yes, gas work sits on its own ticket. Installing, altering, repairing, servicing, testing and certifying a gas system all belong to licensed gasfitters, and you can ask to see that ticket before work starts. We carry ours on every job.

What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?

The QBCC grants two licence types: the occupational licence for whoever does the work, and the contractor licence for the business running the job. Every job is done by a licensed plumber under QBCC No: 15024607, so the work stays inside the licensing system.

Does the team work on units and rentals as well as houses?

Yes, houses, units and rentals across The Gap all get the same service. Owners, landlords, renters and body corporates each book us, and who signs off and who pays just changes with the setup, so tell us the arrangement when you ring.
